Yes, I am ready,
For a long time I have been wondering why not dedicate an exhibition space to Rostov enamels (finift).
Some time ago I saw on YouTube a beautiful video by Andrej Boldyrev dedicated to the Rostov museum. Unfortunately I do not know the Russian language and so I understood little, but honestly I did not imagine that Rostov's enamels could reach exceptional levels of artistic quality.
I also know some dedicated books.
Often many Rostov’s enamels are presented in international auctions and sometimes reach very high prices.
Wandering through this site, sometimes I find topics dedicated to the individual Rostov’s icons, but I could not find a specific dedicated space.
I know that the Rostov enamels have been very popular and widespread in Russia.
Surely there were many workshops that produced enamels. At times I have seen different variations of the same subject (for example the icons of St. Tryphon, of the Mother of God Pecherskaja or the Dormition of the Mother of God). I also saw liturgical objects with the enamels set.
Rostov enamels are an antique extraordinary form of russian applied art that deserves to be known.
For these reasons the idea to group the antique Rostov’s enamels in an exhibition space of this site was born.
I invite everyone to participate in this novelty, showing the icons of their collection or providing news on the history of Rostov’s enamels.
I start with the only icon of my collection, the Dormition of the Mother of God.
